The event
Held each November in Soufrière / Scott's Head Bay, Blue Element is one of the Caribbean's premier freediving competitions — an official AIDA event with full world-record status, organised by Jonathan Sunnex and Harry McCahill with a seasoned international crew of judges, safety and medical professionals.
Athletes from dozens of countries come for the same reason everyone does: water so calm, clear and deep that personal bests and national records fall here year after year.
The disciplines
Every athlete announces a target depth the day before. Reach it, return clean, and complete the surface protocol for a white card.
Down and up under fin power, following the line without pulling. The classic depth discipline.
The same, on bi-fins only — a discipline of its own with its own records.
The purest, hardest discipline — propelled by a breaststroke alone, no fins, no line pulls.
No fins — the diver pulls hand-over-hand down and back up the line. Elegant and precise.

National and continental records are set at Blue Element almost every edition. The platform's depth, the still water and the world-class safety let athletes commit fully to the dive.

Safety & judging
Every dive is covered by staged in-water safety divers, counter-ballast, sonar tracking, surface oxygen and an on-site medical team — overseen by certified AIDA judges. It's why athletes feel free to push here.
